Minnesota Twins: Eddie Rosario hits a grand slam, but Fien gives it back to White Sox
The Minnesota Twins were closing to sweeping the Chicago White Sox, but the Sox put a padlock on the closet and didn’t let the Twins break out the brooms on Thursday afternoon. It looked like the Twins were about to break the lock via an Eddie Rosario grand slam in the third, but that was not enough.
Rosario’s grand slam gave the Twins a 4-1 lead, but the White Sox would fight back. Twins starter Kyle Gibson gave up a couple more runs before departing via an Alexi Ramirez RBI single in the fourth and an Avisail Garcia sac fly in the sixth.
Gibson got through six innings of the game for the Twins and was decent. Gibson gave up three runs on five hits and struck out four in his outing. Casey Fien was the main culprit for the Twins downfall in the game. Fien lasted only for 1/3 inning and gave up three earned runs in his short stint.

White Sox pinch hitter J.B. Shuck hit a two-RBI triple off of Fien and was later scored via an Adam Eaton sac fly that brought the score to 6-4. That’s all the White Sox would get and would need.
Neal Cotts, Blaine Boyer and Brian Duensing combined for 2.2 innings of shutout ball. Cotts allowed two hits, Duensing one in 1.1 innings and Boyer didn’t allow a hit, but walked two.
The Twins were lacking some clutch hits again on Thursday. The team went 1-5 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base. The only extra-base hit in the game for the Twins was Rosario’s grand slam.
Jeff Samardzija was mediocre again in his start and the Twins really should have scored more than four runs off of the Chicago starter. He walked four and gave up five hits and only allowed the four runs in the outing.
Minnesota will now travel on down to Texas for the second straight weekend series against the Houston Astros. Friday’s game is set for a 7:10 first pitch and the Twins send Mike Pelfrey to the mound.
