Minnesota Vikings trade for Jeremiah Sirles

The Minnesota Vikings are wheeling and dealing before officially finalizing their roster. The Vikings have reportedly spun a trade with the San Diego Chargers to strengthen the team’s offensive line. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Minnesota has acquired offensive lineman Jeremiah Sirles.

There is not a whole lot of NFL tape on Sirles who is now in his second year in the league. Last season, Sirles only appeared in two games last season for the Chargers and started in one of those. Sirles turned 24-year-old almost a month ago on August 8.

1500 ESPN points out that the Vikings have reportedly sent a sixth round pick in exchange for Sirles.

Sirles played his college ball at the University of Nebraska and got some playing time in his junior and senior seasons for the Cornhuskers.

As expected for NFL-caliber offensive lineman, Sirles is a really big guy. Sirles stands 6-7 and weighs 308 pounds. He was born in Lakewood, Colorado and played high school ball at Bear Creek in Lakewood. He is the only Bear Creek alum to appear in the NFL.

I think it is safe to assume that the Vikings have traded for Sirles for offensive line depth after some injuries have plagued the line this preseason for the Vikings.

Injuries have been, like most preseasons, a pretty major storyline so far. Both Adrian Peterson and Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers have made their voices heard about how they think there are too many preseason games. I love watching football games, but I have to agree with the two huge NFL stars.

The Vikings regular season kicks off in two Mondays on Monday Night Football against the San Francisco 49ers.
