Minnesota Twins: Miguel Sano pinch-hit homer gives Twins series win over Royals

Miguel Sano did it again. Sano was not in the lineup on Wednesday night after finding himself in a slump, but Sano might’ve just homered himself out of that slump. Wednesday’s matchup against the Kansas City Royals went 12 innings and it might’ve went more if not for Sano.

In the 12th, Sano pinch hit for Chris Herrmann and hit a solo home run that gave the Twins the winning run, putting the Twins ahead of the Royals 3-2. Sano hit the dinger right after a pitch that was pretty much down the middle was called a ball, so the lack of robot umpires is still a good thing for the Twins.

Kurt Suzuki started the scoring in the sixth with a solo home run, the hit also broke up a no-no being thrown by Kris Medlen. Joe Mauer continued the scoring in the inning with an RBI single scoring Aaron Hicks.

Ben Zobrist hit a homer in the bottom of the inning to cut the lead to 2-1 and two innings later the Royals would tie it up. During the eighth inning, Trevor May gave up a sacrifice fly to Lorenzo Cain that would tie the game. The game would then go four innings before Sano did his long ball thing.

Mike Pelfrey only went 5.1 innings, but did only give up one run to the Royals. Kurt Suzuki had to leave the game in the tenth after a collision at the plate, but it is being reported that Suzuki is day-to-day with a bruised left knee.

The Twins have Thursday off before firing it up again on Friday in Chicago for a series against the White Sox.
