Minnesota Twins: Ron Gardenhire favorite, but not yet contacted by Detroit Tigers
We have Ron Gardenhire news from people that you can now trust. A couple days ago, a report came from a Detroit sports blog that Gardenhire was basically signed up and ready to go in Detroit after this season. It is expected that Brad Ausmus will be fired once the Tigers finish their season. Detroit is currently in last place in the American League Central.
On Friday morning, more reporting about Gardenhire’s future came out from multiple big time sources. Right before 9:00 AM, Bob Nightengale of USA Today tweeted out this:
Again, this move makes sense for Gardenhire and the Tigers, but we were just waiting for a reliable source to say so. Nightengale is a very reliable source.
The very interesting thing came from Patrick Reusse of the Minneapolis Star Tribune and 1500ESPN. Reusse tweeted this out right before noon on Friday:
If anyone has actually gotten a word from Gardenhire himself, it would be Reusse. While the two tweets together don’t exactly flow, I still think that there is truth to both.

It’s virtually a certainty that Detroit will fire Ausmus right after the season, so the job is clearly open, but there is no real need to actually contact candidates before the firing is done. Despite the Tigers being in the cellar of the AL Central, the job still isn’t a horrible one. A team that has Miguel Cabrera and the pitching talent that it does should be attractive to a big time manager.
Ron Gardenhire isn’t going anywhere before the season is through and he’d be a good fit in Detroit. It’s a division he is more than familiar with and he, frankly, does deserve at least one more shot in bringing a team back to the playoffs.
