Protect the Bridge..water!

In the postgame press conference, head coach Mike Zimmer put a lot of the blame on quarterback Teddy Bridgewater. Zimmer said that Bridgewater did not have that great of a game. There’s no doubt that Bridgewater didn’t do great, but I don’t think that is entirely Bridgewater’s fault.

Bridgewater was sacked five times on Monday night via a defense that lost seemingly everybody and their brother during the offseason. Bridgewater should never be sacked that much in a game, nonetheless against a defense so green as the 49ers.

My theory is that Zimmer did not want to rip the offensive line since they are probably in over their heads. It’s a mind game for the offensive line and that’s understandable. The Vikings are down two pretty important linemen, so they are already fighting an uphill fight.

It doesn’t matter if the whole line is the third string or not, Bridgewater needs to be better protected that what he was on Monday night.
