Minnesota Vikings: Six observations from the Vikings opening loss
Sep 14, 2015; Santa Clara, CA, USA; San Francisco 49ers running back Carlos Hyde (28) dives for a touchdown with a block from quarterback Colin Kaepernick (7) against the Minnesota Vikings during the second quarter at Levi
The ugh run defense
What makes losing even worse? Giving the Green Bay Packers something and I’m not even talking about the Packers already being a game ahead of everybody in the NFC North.

With the Vikings run defense not being able to stop Carlos Hyde, the Vikings statistically had the worst run defense in the NFL in Week 1. Going into Monday night, the Green Bay Packers were holding that designation. That’s a title the Vikings don’t want to steal from the Packers.
It is one game and a small sample size, but the Vikings do need to step up in stopping the run. The Vikings have powerful backs on the schedule like Jamaal Charles and Eddie Lacy twice and the Vikings need to be able to stop those backs if they want to win those ballgames.
It is easier said than done, but sometimes a loss is a blessing in disguise. The loss to the 49ers gives the Vikings a lot of things to think about and to learn from going forward in the 2015 schedule.
