Minnesota Twins blow big first inning lead, lose to Angels
The Minnesota Twins should be firmly in the second American League Wild Card spot, but the team just can’t stop losing. Luckily for the Twins, the Houston Astros can’t stop losing either.
The Twins gave Tommy Milone a five run lead in the fifth, you read that correctly, and Milone couldn’t even make it out of the second inning. Minnesota scored via a Joe Mauer RBI single, Torii Hunter three-run homer and Kurt Suzuki RBI double in the first to take the lead.

Milone gave up an RBI single and walked in a run before he got pulled while only getting one out in the second. Chris Archer came in with the bases loaded and Mike Trout up to bat. You can imagine what happened. Yes, a Mike Trout grand slam to give the Angels a 6-5 lead. An inning later, Chris Iannetta hit a two-run homer to really put it out of hand.
Minnesota would score a run here and there, but the Angels would answer back every time including another Trout homer, this time only a single homer. After all the added runs the Twins would lose by four runs by a score of 11-8.
Luckily the Texas Rangers once again defeated the Houston Astros 8-2 on Thursday night, so the Twins still remain 1.5 games behind Houston for the second Wild Card spot. The problem is that the Angels are now closing in, now only being a win behind the Twins. Obviously, an Angels win tomorrow would tie them with the Twins in the standings.
The Twins have three more games to move up and away from the Angels. Friday’s game is set for 7:10 from Target Field.
