Minnesota Vikings: Offense is on the rise when Adrian Peterson is given the ball

The Minnesota Vikings had a lot of issues in Week One. Let’s not rehash those, because that was a much darker time. Seriously, the game didn’t start until almost 9:30 in Minnesota. A lot of those issues seem to be lessened in the Vikings’ Week Two victory over the Detroit Lions, 26-16.

One of the main issues that caught the eye of many during the San Francisco 49ers game was the use of Adrian Peterson. Peterson only received ten carries in his first go-round back after a nearly season long suspension a season ago.

Peterson never got going in Week One and the Vikings lost.

In Week Two, the Vikings got Peterson the ball early and often and won.

It’s not as simple as just give Adrian Peterson the ball and everything will be fine, no, but it’s a good start. Everyone will tell you that a good running game opens up everything for an offense and it looked like that happened on Sunday against Detroit.

More from Adrian Peterson

Peterson took 29 carries on Sunday and went for 134 yards on the ground. Peterson didn’t get in the end zone, but beggars can’t be choosers. Peterson’s actual presence on the field helped quarterback Teddy Bridgewater to a 14/18 day for 153 yards and a touchdown via the air and one on the ground, too.

I’ve been rattling my brain for over a week now trying to figure out why the Vikings didn’t give Adrian the ball in Week One. Maybe they wanted to get San Francisco that off guard, but it obviously didn’t work. Giving the ball to Adrian works.

Sunday wasn’t perfect for Peterson either. Peterson fumbled the ball three times which gave me some ugly flashbacks to the really early days of AP in the NFL. But even with Peterson turnovers, the Vikings defeated the Lions, a decent Lions squad, by ten points.

It can really only get better from here. Peterson eliminating some of his fumbles and a still learning Bridgewater just shows that the Vikings offense is on the up swing.
