Minnesota Twins win and keep pace with Astros and Angels
The Minnesota Twins keep getting knocked down, but they keep getting back up, too. The Twins notched another win on Saturday night and kept pace with the Houston Astros and the Los Angeles Angels in the race for the second American League Wild Card spot.
The Twins jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the early innings. Miguel Sano got a run in when he reached on an error in the first and Brian Dozier hit a sacrifice fly in the third to give the Twins their first two. Then Tyler Duffey gave those two right back.
In the fourth inning, Nick Castellanos hit an RBI double which James McCann followed up with an RBI single to tie it up in the fourth. The good news is that Duffey and his bullpen replacements would shut the door from there on out.

Minnesota got the lead back in the seventh inning. First, Kurt Suzuki hit an RBI single to give the Twins a 3-2 lead. Next up was Eduardo Escobar and he did Eduardo Escobar things, he grounded into a fielder’s choice that scored another run for the Twins. Escobar wasn’t done there, though.
Two innings later in the ninth, Escobar gave the Twins some much needed insurance. Escobar hit a two-run home run that gave the Twins a 6-2 lead and allowed a lot of breathing room for closer Kevin Jepsen.
Escobar finished the game with three RBIs for the Twins.
Duffey had yet another solid game for the Twins. The rookie went six innings and only allowed the two runs on eight hits. Blaine Boyer, Trevor May and Jepsen all pitched an inning of work to close out the game for Minnesota.
