The Minnesota Twins are keeping the dream alive. In the fight for the second wild card spot in the American League, the Twins defeated the American League central rival Cleveland Indians 4-2 on Monday night.

Phil Hughes was supposed to be the starter for the Twins on Monday, but Hughes fell ill and Tommy Milone filled in. Milone faced off against Cleveland star Corey Kluber and outdueled the ace.

Milone went 5.2 innings and only allowed two runs. Kluber went 6 innings and allowed four runs in another tough start against the Twins.

The Twins got Milone a good chunk of run support before he even got to the mound. Miguel Sano started the scoring off with an RBI double. Trevor Plouffe followed immediately after with a two-run home run to give the Twins a 3-0 lead.

Milone would give up a solo homer to Francisco Lindor in the first, but that’s the only response Cleveland would give in the first inning.

Brian Dozier hit a sac-fly in the fourth to give the Twins an extra insurance run to 4-1. Lindor grounded out to short, but notched an RBI in the sixth, but that would conclude the scoring for the game with the Twins ahead 4-2 at the final out.

Blaine Boyer, Casey Fien, Glen Perkins and Kevin Jepsen came in to finish the game for Minnesota. Only two hits were allowed by the bullpen, one a piece from Fien and Perkins.

The Twins take on Cleveland once again on Tuesday. 6:10 central first pitch from Cleveland.
