Bullpen solidness
My roommate and I were just talking last night about Glen Perkins and how the season has been a tale of two for the at-the-moment former closer. Perkins was perfect in save situations before the All-Star break, but has been hurt or shaky ever since the All-Star Game. Perkins has officially blown three saves, but it feels like a whole lot more. It is impossible to think Perkins could have stayed perfect, but even one less official blown save would have the Twins a half-game out which is a big deal at this stage of the game.
The Twins need Perkins to be good for the rest of the season. Trevor May needs to be available and the dominant bullpen arm that he has proven to be since being moved out of the rotation. New closer Kevin Jepsen needs to keep doing what he has done of late. Those three for sure need to be beyond solid for the Twins to make it and some additional arms will need to step up and help.
As I mentioned before, the bullpen has been a roller coaster all season long for Minnesota. The bullpen roller coaster needs to really get it straightened out for the last week.
Next: Great hair, greater play!
