Minnesota Twins fall to Royals, eliminated from playoff race
It’s officially over. With the loss on Saturday afternoon, the Minnesota Twins officially were eliminated from postseason contention. It was all looking good until the Kansas City Royals exploded for four runs in the seventh inning and defeated the Twins by a score of 5-1.
Tommy Milone started for the Twins and put in another solid performance for Minnesota. Milone went six innings and allowed only one run on six hits while striking out the Royals five times. The only run Milone gave up was a deep RBI double to Eric Hosmer in the first and after that Kansas City didn’t score with Milone on the mound.
Brian Dozier hit an RBI single in the sixth to tie it at 1-1, but it was yet another game where the Twins offense couldn’t muster anything. The Twins notched six hits, but also committed three errors in the game.

Those errors would show in more than one spot in the box score. The Royals scored five, but only two of those runs were earned.
Blaine Boyer gave up two runs, but only one was earned. Neal Cotts followed with two runs of his own, but none of the runs given up by Cotts were earned. It simply wasn’t a pretty game for the Twins.
Again, the loss officially eliminates the Twins from a possible playoff berth. The Twins overachieved tremendously this season, but it still seemed like the team just ran out of gas the last couple games. The Twins had their chances to make the playoffs, but couldn’t prevail.
The Twins play their final game of 2015 on Sunday afternoon against the Kansas City Royals. The final first pitch of the regular season for Minnesota is slated for 2:10 from Target Field.
