Minnesota Vikings: Everson Griffen to play on Sunday against Lions

The mystery surrounding Minnesota Vikings defensive end Everson Griffen continues after he was a very late scratch on Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs. ESPN now reports that Griffen was not just simply sick.

Ben Goessling reports that before Sunday’s game that Griffen visited head athletic trainer Eric Sugarman who ran some tests and sent the defensive end to Hennepin County Medical Center for further testing. It must not have been anything too serious because Griffen was home before the Vikings game concluded, plus ESPN is reporting it was not an irregular heartbeat.

Here’s what Griffen told the media on Thursday.

"“I felt like I wasn’t all the way where I needed to be. I went in, I talked to [athletic trainer Eric Sugarman], and they handled it accordingly. I’m thankful for that because I could have went out there and got injured or something worse could have happened. I went to Hennepin County [Medical Center], everything checked out right, and I’m happy to be back and getting ready for Detroit.”"

Griffen seems to be ready to go against the Detroit Lions. Griffen is practicing in full on Thursday after sitting out practice on Wednesday while still undergoing some tests.

No question that the return of Griffen will do wonders for the Vikings. Griffen leads the Vikings with three sacks this season and his presence will help the Vikings once again put great pressure on Detroit Lions quarterback Matt Stafford on Sunday in Detroit.

Kick-off of the game is set for noon central. The game can be seen on FOX.
