The Minnesota Timberwolves will be kicking off their regular season on Wednesday night in a star-studded affair in Los Angeles against the Lakers. Both the Lakers and the Timberwolves aren’t expected to be really good this season, but the shine and luster of the Lakers and first overall draft pick Karl-Anthony Towns for the Wolves got the game onto the opening night of ESPN action.

Towns is just one of a handful of players to be watching from the Wolves this season. The team is looking to best their league-worst 16 wins last season with a mix of quite a young nucleus and a trio or so of guys who’s primes were a half-decade or more ago.

The season will be a compelling one and there is no doubt that it’ll be an amazingly fun year to watch some Wolves basketball. So let’s take a dive on in and see which players we should be watching even closer than the others.

You can check out a full season preview and predictions piece from my Sporting Sota colleague Drew Mahowald right here. He has the Wolves at a season record of 32-50 and missing the playoffs. I will say, like I do before every season because I’m a hopeless romantic, the Wolves find a way to sneak into the playoffs. They won’t actually do that, but I like saying it. It makes me feel good. I miss playoff basketball at Target Center.
