Minnesota Timberwolves: Flip Saunders to be honored with Twitter moment of silence

In the past couple of days, we’ve seen numerous beautiful tributes and notes posted online in honor of former Minnesota Timberwolves head coach Flip Saunders. Today, our friends over at Hardwood Paroxysm have teamed with the Timberwolves blog A Wolf Among Wolves as well as other several Timberwolves and Los Angeles Lakers media organizations to come up with another idea to honor Flip.
According to this article from A Wolf Among Wolves and this article from Hardwood Paroxysm, the plan is to perform a Twitter moment of silence during the beginning of the Timberwolves’ season opener against the Lakers tomorrow night. The plan, as outlined in the articles, includes refraining from Twitter from the time between tip of at approximately 9:30 P.M. CST to the moment when the Wolves make their first basket.
As an active Twitter user myself, I’m a fan of this idea. In this day in age, Twitter is probably the most popular social media network on the Internet, and there’s no doubt that Twitter users that are NBA fans will be active during tomorrow night’s game.
The Wolves’ season opener will be televised nationally on ESPN. Hopefully, this plan of a Twitter silence spreads to ESPN before tip-off and they can announce it to the rest of the viewers. At any rate, I encourage all of you who are basketball fans and active on Twitter to take part in this event to honor a man who gave his life to basketball.
