Minnesota Twins: Brian Dozier named finalist for Gold Glove award

The Minnesota Twins might just have had a golden player this last season. Twins second baseman Brian Dozier has been announced as one of three finalists for the American League second baseman Gold Glove award.

The other two finalists for the award are the Houston Astros’ Jose Altuve and the Detroit Tigers’ Ian Kinsler. The Gold Glove winners will be announced on November 10. Baseball Prospectus reports that Dozier will get a $25,000 bonus for winning a Gold Glove.

Dozier was great in the first half of the season and made an All-Star appearance for the Minnesota Twins. That wasn’t the case for him in the second half of the season. Dozier will be around Minnesota for a while, after signing a four-year contract which runs through the 2018 season.

The last Twin to win a Gold Glove was Joe Mauer in 2010. Mauer won the award as a catcher for three consecutive years. Other Twins to win the Gold Glove is Jim Kaat (12 times, yes, seriously), Johan Santana, Earl Battey (three times), Vic Power (three times), Doug Mientkiewicz, Chuck Knoblauch, Garry Gaetti (four times), Zoilo Versalles (two times), Torii Hunter (seven times), Kirby Puckett (six times) and Tony Oliva. Knoblauch is the only Twin to win the Gold Glove at second base.

Dustin Pedroia of the Boston Red Sox has won the Gold Glove for American League second baseman the last two seasons.
