Minnesota Last Week, This Week: Recap/Preview of Vikings, Gophers, Timberwolves and Wild
It was quite the week in Minnesota sports. It was an emotional rollercoaster ride, but the week has past and another week full of games is ready for us to enjoy. Let’s quick recap the week that was and look what’s coming up for our enjoyment this week across the Minnesota sporting scene.
Minnesota Timberwolves
The Timberwolves head into week two of the season with an undefeated record. The Wolves opened up the season on Wednesday against the Los Angeles Lakers and won behind a phenomenal game from Ricky Rubio. Friday was game two of the season against the Denver Nuggets and it was time for rookie Karl-Anthony Towns to shine and be dominant.
The Wolves have three games this week including the home opener on Monday. A helpful reminder from the editor: the Thursday and Saturday games will be on Fox Sports North Plus due to Wild hockey.
This week’s Wolves schedule:
Monday vs. Portland Trail Blazers – 7:00
Thursday vs. Miami Heat – 7:00
Saturday @ Chicago Bulls – 5:00
Minnesota Wild
The Wild had three games this past week and went 2-0-1 in the trio. Minnesota defeated the young Edmonton Oilers by a 4-3 score on Tuesday and then beat the rival Chicago Blackhawks by 5-4 on Friday night in St. Paul. The only loss of the week was on Saturday in overtime against the St. Louis Blues by a 3-2 tally.
Only a pair of games for the Wild this week and both are home contests that can be viewed on Fox Sports North.
This week’s Wild schedule:
Thursday vs. Nashville Predators – 7:00
Saturday vs. Tampa Bay Lightning – 7:00
Minnesota Golden Gopher Football
Last week saw Jerry Kill suddenly retire from being the head coach of the team due to health concerns and the return of seizures. Tracy Claeys was named the interim head coach and was suddenly faced with a big decision. The decision didn’t go well as the Gophers were stuffed at the one-yard line and surrendered the Little Brown Jug to Michigan.
It don’t get easier for the Gophers. This week the Gophers fly into Columbus to take on the #1 rated Ohio State Buckeyes. Go get ‘em, boys. You can view the game on ABC.
This week’s Gophers schedule:
Saturday @ #1 Ohio State Buckeyes – 6:00
Minnesota Vikings
The Vikings finally defeated the curse on Sunday. Minnesota finally won in Chicago thanks to the Teddy Bridgewater and Stefon Diggs connection. The news got better on Sunday night when the Green Bay Packers were defeated by the Denver Broncos brining the Vikings within a game of first place in the NFC North.
Minnesota gets to be home now this week, but will have to face a tougher opponent in the St. Louis Rams. The Vikings will try to stop Todd Gurley which has looked to be easier said than done so far in his NFL career. Vikings and Rams will do battle on your television on FOX.
This week’s Vikings schedule:
Sunday vs. Rams – Noon
