Minnesota Vikings: Bridgewater, Newman pass first concussion test

In the Minnesota Vikings victory over the St. Louis Rams on Sunday, both quarterback Teddy Bridgewater and cornerback Terence Newman sustained concussions and were forced to head to the locker room for the remainder of the game.

Of course, the focus is on Bridgewater who’s been dubbed the “quarterback of the future” for the Vikings. He suffered his concussion after absorbing a controversial hit from Rams defensive back LaMarcus Joyner.

According to an article from Mark Craig of the Minneapolis-Star Tribune, Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer announced to the media today that Bridgewater and Newman have both passed their initial concussion tests. For Bridgewater and Newman to be eligible to play this Sunday in Oakland, they’ll have to go through a workout, remain headache-free afterwards, and then pass a second cognitive test.

More from Minnesota Vikings

“He passed his first test, so we should be good to go, I think,” Zimmer said to the media Monday. “He hasn’t passed all of his tests yet, but he has passed one. I think he’ll be good to go.”

In other Vikings injury news, linebacker Anthony Barr suffered an apparent arm injury on Sunday and was in a cast after the game. Zimmer told the media today that Barr dud undergo an X-Ray and, although he didn’t elaborate on the results of the X-Ray, said Barr should be good to go against the Raiders.

As for Eric Kendricks, who missed Sunday’s battle with a rib injury, Zimmer was reluctant to give specific information. It remains unclear if he’ll be able to go against the Raiders.

The Vikings could certainly use him, as they lose Audie Cole, Kendricks’ replacement, for the season after he broke his foot on Sunday. This linebacker corps that used to be so deep is suddenly extremely thin. It will definitely be something to watch leading up to Sunday’s matchup with a suddenly dangerous Raiders team.
