Minnesota Vikings announce huge Viking ship outside U.S. Bank Stadium
The Minnesota Vikings are not going to need a bigger boat because they have announced a really big one. The Vikings have announced a huge ship to be right outside the new U.S. Bank Stadium that will include the sail being a video board.
You can head over to the Star Tribune’s website to see some mockups of what the Viking ship will look like. It resembles the ship out at Winter Park, but is a whole lot bigger. The one by 494 is 70 feet long by 18 feet wide and the new one in downtown Minneapolis will be 160 feet long and 45 feet wide.
The ship is going to be so big that it is going to have seating so you can sit down and enjoy the huge sail screen which measures out to 2,000 square feet and 55 feet tall. The video board will show clips of the game during game day, but further plans for the huge board have not yet been disclosed. The bow of the ship will feature a Viking-donned dragon which will have light up eyes and be 43 feet high.

This new ship will be privately funded, but you can get in on the action and be part of the ship for years to come! The team is selling engraved pavers that will be part of the ship and so far only 6,00 have been sold with a capacity of at least twice that number.
The Vikings are labeling the new monument as the ‘showstopper’ for the new stadium and it’s addition to the Minneapolis skyline. Construction will begin on the ship in the spring and will be open in time for the Vikings’ first preseason game in the new digs.
