The Minnesota Vikings will be without defensive backs Harrison Smith and Trae Waynes against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday.

The good news for Minnesota Vikings fans is that the Atlanta Falcons stud running back Devonta Freeman is out this week. The bad news is that the Falcons still have Matt Ryan at quarterback and the Vikings are very beat up in the secondary.

The Vikings will be playing without star safety Harrison Smith and rookie cornerback Trae Waynes on Sunday in Atlanta. Smith’s knee was injured last week against the Green Bay Packers and Waynes is dealing with an ankle issue, according to Pro Football Talk.

Ben Goessling of ESPN reports that Antone Exum will be the man to step up and start in place of the injured Smith. It was seen as fight between Exum and Robert Blanton to see who would get the start this week if Smith was out.

As Goessling points out, this is a huge game for Exum. Smith will get his job back when healthy, that seemingly will be very soon, but a well-played contest from Exum could give him a shot at Andrew Senedjo’s job and Vikings fans don’t need to be told how Senedjo has done this season.

Another piece of good injury news is that it looks like the Vikings might have the services of defensive end Everson Griffen. As of publishing, he has not been scratched from the game which is set to kickoff at noon central on Sunday in Atlanta.
