Of all the 2016 Vikings Draft picks, Laquon Treadwell was the last one without a contract signed. Now the whole class is under contract.

Now that we can see that the details have been worked out, Laquon Treadwell will be a Minnesota Vikings for at least the next four seasons. According to his agency, Impact Sports Inc, he traveled to New York this morning and agreed to the details of his four-year contract.

As the 23rd pick of the 2016 NFL draft, Treadwell was not the first wide receiver taken. His draft stock slipped after a bad 40 yard dash time. The Vikings general manager Rick Spielman mentioned after drafting Treadwell that he thought his speed would improve as he had not fully recovered from his 2014 injury.

There has been a lot of great receivers that have posted slower 40 yard dash times and had amazing careers. Larry Fitzgerald, Jerry Rice, and Deandre Hopkins. This is probably why Treadwell is probably getting a lot of comparisons to these players. Using his strength and burst to get off the line is how he creates separation.

In ESPN’s Sports Science feature, Treadwell showed a huge catch radius. He also tested better than any wide receiver in this year’s class in speed through the first 10 yards. That showed that he might not have the straight line speed for the 40-yard dash, but he has the initial burst to get off the line quickly. Their conclusion was that due to his measurables, he compared most to Deandre Hopkins. I will take that.

I am excited to see the impact Treadwell will have on the Vikings offense this upcoming season. He was my favorite wide receiver in this years class. Treadwell is the perfect fit for quarterback Teddy Bridgewater. He will be a great red zone threat and chain mover. Not to mention how his blocking skills will benefit the run game. Having another target for defenses to focus on, things should open up more for Stefon Diggs, Kyle Rudolph, and Adrian Peterson.

Let us hope that he will build quick chemistry with Bridgewater and hear the Teddy to Treadwell connection announced a lot by our broadcasters this upcoming season.
