After one of the best rookie seasons ever, Karl Anthony Towns will be awarded the NBA Rookie of the Year award Monday at 11am CST.

As we have all known for a while, Karl Anthony Towns will be this year’s NBA Rookie of the Year. He put together a rookie season that is often compared to that of Tim Duncan. The Minnesota Timberwolves Public Relations Department put out this announcement today.

Deemed as a “Major NBA Announcement,” it is only right to assume that this will be the crowning of this year’s Rookie of the Year. Differing from normal, this will be the last of the NBA season awards to be announced. Usually this award is given before the MVP award. This year I assume they paired the announcement of this award with the NBA Draft Lottery, as Towns is the representative for the Timberwolves at the event.

After putting up a season like Towns did, there should be a good chance that he is the unanimous winner of the award. I do not see a candidate that could challenge him for a first place vote. He stepped into the NBA and took it by storm. After posting a PER, player efficiency rating, of 22.5, there should be no question on if he should be the award winner. He could have been considered for an All NBA third team spot. He will be a top three player at his position by next season, if he isn’t already.

This will be two years in a row that a Timberwolves player received this award with Andrew Wiggins winning it last year. This has only happened four times before, and the last time was in 1974. This is an amazing feat for this franchise as they have had bad luck for almost a decade. There are now building blocks in place for the future to turn this team into a contender. Also I forgot to mention, they have a projected top 5 pick in the upcoming draft.
