After putting together one of the best rookie seasons ever seen, Karl-Anthony Towns was named the unanimous 2015-16 Kia NBA Rookie of the Year.

This morning, at Target Center, Karl Anthony Towns received his Rookie of the Year award. He was the unanimous winner. This is only the fifth time there has been a unanimous winner for this award, with the most recent being Damian Lillard. After winning the Kia NBA Western Conference Rookie of the Month award every month this season, he was an easy selection for the season’s award. Towns started all 82 games for the Minnesota Timberwolves. He put together a season that was one of the best rookie seasons in history. Here is a breakdown of the voting.

This was posted by the NBA Twitter account.

The award presentation started with a representative of Kia giving the award to Towns. Next was the new Timberwolves coach, Tom Thibodeau. Thibodeau talked about Towns and being the number one overall pick.

"When you come into the league as the No.1 pick there are big expectations. He exceeded all those expectations."

He had nothing but good things to say about Towns and his work ethic. He has to be excited to work with a generational talent that is nowhere near his ceiling.

Towns took the stage, initially thanking his family, teammates, and coaching staff. He referred to Kevin Garnett as “Lord KG.” Here is a photo Garnett posted before the presentation.

Towns was asked some questions by the press about the upcoming season. He was asked what is a reasonable expectation for next season.

"Everything is reasonable, nothing is off the table."

He later was talking about making this team a contender.

"This is a landmark of my career, but it’s not the last one."

Watching Towns address the media when accepting this award you could see he is not just a professional on the court, but also off the court. He is just 20 years old, but he is a very mature kid. You could see that Thibodeau was smiling and nodding his head in agreement with everything Towns was saying. Thibodeau seemed overjoyed.

He was also awarded a 2016 Kia Sorento, in which he had his choice of charities to award the car to. Of course, Towns donated his KIA to the Leukemia Lymphoma Society, Minnesota Chapter in honor of the late Flip Saunders. Debbie Saunders accepted the keys on their behalf.

After watching an amazing season from Towns, the upcoming season is going to be something to watch from the Minnesota Timberwolves. With back to back Rookie of the Year award winners, a few other nice pieces, and another top five projected pick in this year’s NBA draft, the Timberwolves have a bright future.
