Byron Buxton Tearing Through Triple-A
After a bad start to the season, Byron Buxton was sent down to the Twins Triple-A affiliate. Now Buxton is on a tear with the Rochester Red Wings.
From the start of the season, Byron Buxton was one of the top prospects in Major League Baseball this season. He has been at the top of that list for a couple of years, but this was supposed to be the year that he broke through. The Minnesota Twins had all the confidence in him. They even traded away Aaron Hicks to make room for Buxton in the starting center field spot.
After 45 at-bats, Buxton posted 7 hits. Even worse, he struck out 24 times. He just did not seem to be able to hit big league pitching. His confidence seemed lost.
With all the expectations on his shoulders, Buxton was way under performing. He was eventually sent down to the Minnesota Twins Triple-A affiliate, the Rochester Red Wings.

Since being sent down, Buxton has been on an absolute tear. He has posted a .333 batting average in his time with the team. He has also hit 6 home runs, that is including one in this morning’s game. He seems to have his confidence back. He has posted an OPS of .970.
Of course, it would be nice to see Buxton continue this hot streak before we bring him back up and throw him into the fire, but this team is 12-34 and the worst team in franchise history, and in Major League Baseball. It would be nice to see him come up and see if he can work it out. We do not have much to lose as the season is already lost. They say it takes a player 1000 Major League at-bats to get comfortable with the big league pitching. Buxton is nowhere near that.

Buxton is one of the multiple names that have been sent down this season, all though he is the biggest prospect. He will be up soon enough, especially if he keeps this up. We know he has the fielding and base running down, and he seems to have found his bat. At least at the Triple-A level.
