After a break out rookie season, former fifth round gem Stefon Diggs is making his case to be the number one option on the Minnesota Vikings wide receiver corps.

As we all saw last season, Stefon Diggs became the diamond in the rough of the Minnesota Vikings draft class after the fifth rounder becoming quarterback Teddy Bridgewater’s go to target.

After a hot start to last season, we saw him cool off a little towards the end of the season. It seemed that defenses started to key in on Diggs after getting some tape on him.

Diggs has put in a lot of work over the offseason, working with his younger brother Trevon Diggs who is on his way to Alabama on a full ride scholarship, and his quarterback Teddy Bridgewater in Florida with other Vikings receivers.

It seems that his work this offseason, and natural growth as an athlete has put him in position to be the top target on the Minnesota Vikings wide receiver corps.

All training camp we have seen a lot of Teddy to Diggs highlights. Diggs route running is precise and his speed(4.45 40 yard dash) gives him the tools to be the big playmaker the Vikings offense needs to compliment Adrian Peterson.

Having a few serious receiving threats should benefit this offense immensely. Keeping the defense honest is something that the Vikings have not been able to do since the Farve era. It will open up running lanes for Peterson.

The Minnesota Vikings have not had a wide receiver eclipse the 1000 yard mark since Sidney Rice in 2009. Diggs will look to break that streak this season and should have a good chance to do it.

Receiver Coach George Stewart is excited to see Diggs’ sophmore campaign. He knows the potential that he holds and what an upgraded offensive line can do for this team as a whole.

"“He is a playmaker, and with playmakers like Randy Moss, Jerry Rice, Terrell Owens, Roddy White, you want to give them opportunities to make plays,” said Stewart, who has coached them all. “And that’s what he’s doing.”"

Diggs has been crowned as the most impressive player in Mankato so far. Making play after play against a great secondary, the expectations for Diggs are going to be high. He should be a great compliment to first round rookie Laquon Treadwell.

Stefon Diggs should be able to flourish in his second year, especially with other wide receiver targets surrounding him to help keep the defense from focusing on him. Look for Diggs to line up all over the field this season.
