Everson Griffen Wins NFC Defensive Player of the Week
After being a terror to Cam Newton and the Carolina offensive line last Sunday, Minnesota Vikings defensive tackle Everson Griffen is named the NFC Defensive Player of the Week.
Everson Griffen has been a key part of the Vikings front line since he broke into the starting lineup in 2014. Over the last two seasons, Griffen has posted 12 sacks, 10.5 sacks, and has already posted 4 sacks this season.
Griffen’s work ethic can not be matched. His enthusiasm for the game and this team is what sets him apart. He is often seen leading the huddle before games, getting players hyped up.
Griffen said in the offseason that his goal this season was to rack up 20 sacks. Upon hearing that lofty goal, most thought that might not be a realistic goal. As of right now Griffen is on pace for over 21 sacks. This pace will be hard to keep up, but he is in line for a career season.
Playing in Carolina Sunday, Griffen was taken out of the game. He said he was feeling ill. He was said to be dehydrated.
Griffen did not stay out for long and came back in the game to make a huge impact. Griffen recorded four tackles (three solo), including three tackles for loss and three sacks, and nine quarterback hurries in route to a Vikings 22-10 win. Albeit against last season’s MVP.
This morning Griffen was awarded the NFC Defensive Player of the Week award. This is the second time that Griffen has been given this award, the last time being Week 17 vs. Green Bay last season.
We have now seen the Minnesota Vikings garner a player of the week award in each week of the regular season so far. Week 1 was Eric Kendricks winning NFC DPOW. Week 2 was Stefon Diggs winning NFC OPOW. Now this week, Griffen continues the streak.

Like we have mentioned lately, if the Minnesota Vikings can have a player step up each week and play at an elite level, they should have a chance to win against any team in the NFL.
