Karl-Anthony Towns Picked by Most GM’s to Start NBA Franchise Around

In a recent poll, NBA General Managers selected Minnesota Timberwolves Center Karl-Anthony Towns as the player they would start an NBA franchise around today.

In a recent annual poll conducted by NBA.com, there were multiple Minnesota Timberwolves mentioned in different categories. These surveys are voted on by current NBA General Managers.

The biggest accolade given to a Minnesota Timberwolves, was given to who else but Karl-Anthony Towns.

When asked who current GM’s would start a franchise around today if they had the choice of any player, more than 48% selected Towns. That itself shows what General Managers think about Towns and his versatile game.

Towns skill has to be a big factor, but an even bigger one has to be his age. Being barely 20 years old, Towns has the chance to be a franchise player and future MVP for years to come.

Beating out superstars like Lebron James and Kevin Durant, Towns superstar potential is known around league circles.

When asked who is most likely to have a breakout season this year, Towns came in at second with Andrew Wiggins also coming in at 4th in overall votes. Last season Andrew Wiggins won this vote and did have a great season, but with Thibodeau as his coach and another year under his belt, he still has a chance to breakout even more this season.

When asked who the best center in the NBA was, current GM’s voted Towns as 6th place. Towns will shoot up those rankings by this time next season.

Current GM’s were asked which team will make the most improvement this season. The Minnesota Timberwolves are the overwhelming favorite with almost 57% of the votes.

When asked who will win this year’s rookie of the year award, current GM’s voted Kris Dunn as the overwhelming favorite with almost 47% of the votes. This would make the Timberwolves the first team to win back to back to back Rookie of the Year winners.

With another question concerning the rookies, GM’s were asked who will be the best rookie in five years. Kris Dunn came in with 20% of the votes, second to Ben Simmons.

Dunn also received almost 17% of the votes when asked who the biggest steal of the draft was. That was enough to get him the second spot in the voting for that category.

GM’s were asked who the head coach who has the best defensive schemes was. New Minnesota Timberwolves head coach Tom Thibodeau was the overwhelming favorite in this category, garnering 60% of the votes. This all while he has not even coached a regular season game with the team and has been out of basketball for a year.

Thibodeau was also voted as the new coach who will make the biggest impact this season with almost 79% of the votes. That should be a given. With the talent this team has, and the coach pedigree Thibodeau holds, this should be a match made in heaven.

When asked who the most athletic player in the NBA was, Timberwolves guard Zach Lavine came in third in the voting with 10% of the votes. If Lavine can pair that athleticism with some basketball IQ and gain good direction from his new head coach, he should have a chance to be a star.

GM’s were asked who the league’s best passer was. Timberwolves guard Ricky Rubio came in third with 10% of the votes. Rubio’s court vision has always been his strong suit.

The Minnesota Timberwolves garnered many mentions in this survey. This shows that General Managers around the league have their eye on the team and know the talent they possess. This should be a fun year to watch the young team.
