Minnesota Vikings: Eagles more physical than Vikings

Minnesota Vikings Head Coach Mike Zimmer preaches being physical to his player’s. The Eagles made the Vikings look “soft” in their 21-10 victory.

The bullies got out-bullied. Is the Minnesota Vikings offense that bad, or is the Philadelphia Eagles defense just that good?

The truth probably lies somewhere in the middle.

The bread-and-butter of a Mike Zimmer led team is toughness. Here is what Zimmer had to say about his offensive line play.

"We were soft. We got overpowered. The safety beat the tackle one time, the safety beat the back a couple times. It was a little bit of man-on-man, and we got whipped."

The worst thing you could hear as a player is being called soft. You could say they’re slow, have bad hand’s, use poor technique, anything but soft.

But that’s exactly how the Minnesota Vikings O-line looked. I understand Jake Long had been out of football for a while, but let’s hope he still has something left in that 31- year old body. Sam Bradford looked like he was afraid for his life at times on Sunday, not very Viking-like.

It was no surprise that the Eagles were going to pressure Bradford. Having the extra time to work during the bye should have helped to install protection schemes, instead of the Swiss-cheese approach they were running on Sunday.

The sky us not falling, but the clock is ticking…

I’m not as worried about the special teams, they will figure it out. The offensive line however needs to improve in a hurry. If we can’t keep Bradford upright, this team will be 5-5 in a hurry.

Doug Pederson and Jim Schwartz have laid out the blue-print for the rest of the NFL to follow. Blitz, blitz and more blitz. Tony Sparano will be putting in some overtime this week.

Injuries have decimated a unit that played together for all 16 games last season. The O-line is the Minnesota Vikings biggest weakness, and it will continue to get exposed until someone steps up.

Zimmer is not bringing in any more talent, so Jake Long, Jeremiah Sirles and T.J. Clemmings have six days to figure it out.

The good news is that the Chicago Bears are in our sights. Their on-field issues make the Minnesota Vikings look minuscule in comparison. It will be a great opportunity to right the ship.

So we will let the 1972 Miami Dolphins crack the champagne, the Minnesota Vikings will not go unbeaten. 15-1 is still pretty good though.
