Timberwolves: Thibs Scouting at Kings Home Opener?

With the rumors of Minnesota Timberwolves point guard Ricky Rubio being on the trade block, new head coach Tom Thibodeau does a little scouting on his off day.

All offseason we have heard that teams had been inquiring about a trade for Minnesota Timberwolves guard Ricky Rubio.

It is said to be a “when” not “if” situation. With the draft of rookie point guard Kris Dunn, it looks as if Rubio’s future in Minnesota is all but over.

The question is, when will Thibodeau be willing to hand over the keys to Dunn.

Of the teams that have been rumored to have interest in Rubio, the Sacramento Kings have been the team with the most interest.

After loosing Rajan Rondo in free agency this offseason, the Kings have a need for a defensive, pass first point guard. Rubio fits that bill to the tee.

Yesterday, Timberwolves head coach Tom Thibodeau was seen at the Kings home opener.

What was Thibodeau doing? Taking in a game as a fan? Most likely not. With the demeanor Thibodeau has shown in his short time in Minnesota, all of his moves are calculated.

Thibodeau was most likely scouting certain players on the floor last night.

It will be interesting to see what a trade package would look like for Rubio. The Kings have been rumored to have power forward Rudy Gay on the block since the beginning of the offseason.

The Timberwolves will try to get the most value they possibly can get for Rubio. Although he is not an elite scorer, Rubio has proven to be elite in other aspects of the game.

He is one of the best passing point guards in the league today. Not to mention is a top defensive point guard as well.

Looking at the statistics, the Timberwolves are far more efficient on both ends of the floor with Rubio on the court.

Now we will have to wait to see when Thibodeau feels Dunn is ready to take over the starting job. Then it will just be a matter of time until more Rubio rumors are coming out.
