Fan’s of the Minnesota Timberwolves have known the talent has always been there. Could this be the year Zach LaVine takes that next step to becoming a star?

The Minnesota Timberwolves have a freak in their midst. Most of the NBA universe knows Zach LaVine as the dude that can absolutely dominate any dunk contest. In this 2016-17′ NBA season however, LaVine will show he’s so much more than just a flashy dunk-master.

The Wolfies 21- year old phenom is only getting started. After dropping 31 points, and shooting over 60 percent against the Grizzlies Tuesday night, LaVine is making a name for himself.

New HC Tom Thibodeau understands how to get the most out of a team, and LaVine will play a huge role. The young Timberwolves have a ‘Big 3’ of their own, with LaVine, Andrew Wiggins and Karl-Anthony Towns.

Towns’ star seems to be shining the brightest, but LaVine may not be playing second fiddle to anyone. Wiggins is also a very talented up and coming player, but will his size inhibit his growth? Currently Wiggins is listed as a shooting guard/small forward, but struggles against bigger-more physical players.

If Andrew can’t put on some muscle, his game will remain inconsistent. LaVine can play both guard positions, and he may have a better opportunity to outperform Wiggins. You could see it towards the end of last season, when the Wolves beat the Golden State Warriors. Zach was starting to understand how to play in the NBA.

Although we are only three games into the 2016-17′ season, LaVine is leading the team in scoring. It will be interesting to see how Zach can develop this year under the tutelage of Coach Thibs. Thibs took Jimmy Butler under his wing in Chicago, and made him a superstar. Could the wolfies #8 be next?

It may take until the All-Star break to see how far along the Minnesota Timberwolves have come. As a fan of the Wolves I really do not care who is leading the team statistically. I just want to witness the Timberwolves become a perennial playoff contender.

LaVine appears to be flying under-the-radar by most pro analysts, but that will soon change. LaVine’s stock is on the rise, and I’m buying.
