The Minnesota Lynx have started off the season in a very Lynx-like style, with two straight wins. Minnesota traveled to take on the New York Liberty at Madison Square Garden and walked out of one of the most famous arenas in the world with a 19-point road victory.

Despite the end score of 90-71, it wasn’t exactly all Lynx all game long. Minnesota had only a two-point lead at the half, the Liberty took the lead in the third for a spell, and again the Liberty cut the Lynx lead to seven halfway through the fourth quarter, but the Lynx pulled away in the closing minutes to reign victorious in their first road game of the season.

All five Lynx starters notched double-digits in the points column on the night. Maya Moore lead the way with 16 points with 11 rebounds and six assists. Sylvia Fowles and Lindsay Whalen both had 12 points in the victory. Seimone Augustus and Rebekkah Brunson both had 11 points.

Every member of the Lynx found the floor in New York with all participants registering a plus in the plus/minus. Augustus was a +19, Brunson was +15 and Renee Montgomery was a +13 coming off the bench for the Lynx.

Only two Liberty players found themselves in double-digits. Sugar Rogers had 20 points and Brittany Boyd put in 16 points herself.

Former Minnesota Golden Gopher basketball star Amanda Zahui B. did not make an impact on the game coming off the bench for the Liberty. Zahui B. registered a foul in only three minutes of play for Liberty Head Coach Bill Laimbeer.

What’s next for the Lynx?

Minnesota next plays on Saturday on the road against the Dallas Wings. The Wings will have only one game under their belt by the time the two meet up in Dallas. Dallas won their season opener against the Phoenix Mercury by a score of 68-58. Tip-off is set for 7:00.
