The Minnesota Twins and Baltimore Orioles played a game that ended with a football score. The Twins reigned victorious in the baseball match-up in Baltimore.

Mother Nature has thrown the Minnesota Twins for a loop recently. Between two doubleheaders in the past week and doubleheaders scheduled for the months to come, the Twins have had their rotation thrown into a pan and scrambled like a hearty egg breakfast.

The chef starting on the mound for the Twins on Monday night in Baltimore was Kyle Gibson who has recently been cooking in Triple-A Rochester. In Baltimore, Gibson got back to his MLB recipes and served up some tasty taters to the Orioles.

Baltimore opened the game up in the second inning with a five-run outpouring. Trey Mancini hit an RBI double to start the scoring, former Twin JJ Hardy followed with an RBI single and then Adam Jones went yard to give the Orioles a 5-0 lead.

Gibson would get some run support in the third via a Joe Mauer RBI groundout and a Max Kepler solo shot in the fourth before giving up an RBI double to Manny Machado in the bottom of the fourth to make it 6-2. Lucky enough for Gibson, the Twins bats then came alive,

Minnesota scored four runs in the fifth inning to tie the game. Kepler hit a two-RBI double, Eduardo Escobar hit a sac fly and Jorge Polanco hit a RBI single to tie it in the fifth. They didn’t stop there.

The Twins doubled their score with a six spot in the sixth inning. Scoring occurred via a Mauer double, Miguel Sano single, Kepler safe via an error, Escobar double and Escobar scoring via a balk. A crazy high score called for a crazy inning and that was the sixth inning.

Sano would add on with another Sano-ball, workshopping that as what we should call a home run from Miguel Sano, making it a 14-6 game. Baltimore would score a single run in the ninth to make it a final of 14-7.

Gibson did not pitch well in his return to the majors. Gibson gave up six runs and on seven hits and four walks in five innings. The Twins big innings in the fifth and sixth did give Gibson the win. Proof that the ‘win’ stat is a really weird and useless stat.

Ubaldo Jimenez didn’t fare any better as the starter for Baltimore. He only went four innings and gave up six runs on nine hits. Tyler Wilson came in in relief for Jiminez and gave up six runs also in only 1.1 innings of work.

The Twins bullpen shut the door after Gibson left. Tyler Duffey, Craig Breslow and Justin Haley combined for four innings and only allowed a combined four hits and one run. The run came off of Haley in the ninth.

Sano and Polanco both had four-hit games for the Twins.

What’s next for the Twins?

The Twins and Baltimore will go at it again on Tuesday night from Camden Yards. First pitch is set for 6:05 Central.
