QBs: Sam Bradford, Case Keenum, Taylor Heinicke

PUP: Teddy Bridgewater

Is there a quarterback controversy in Minnesota?

After video surfaced of Teddy Bridgewater dropping back to throw at organized team activites (OTAs), news broke out suggesting that he may be further along in his recovery from a serious, career threatening knee injury than previously believed.

While it’s an encouraging sign, Spielman and Zimmer were quick to dismiss the rumors with Zimmer saying he still has ways to go, according to ESPN.com.

"“He’s throwing the ball well. He’s got good velocity, accurate,” Zimmer said. “He’s working his rear end off. It just makes you proud for him. He’s still got a long ways to go. But he’s progressing as well as anybody could expect, I would think.”"

In the meantime, Sam Bradford will head up the QB unit after a solid first season with the Vikings. In fact, Bradford had his best season as a pro, finishing with 3,877 yards, 20 TDs and an NFL-record 71.6 completion percentage. He will look to build on the individual success and translate it to team success in his second year with the team.

Behind him, the Vikings signed veteran QB Case Keenum to be the backup after starting nine games for the now Los Angeles Rams in 2016. The move should be an upgrade over the aging Shaun Hill, who is an unrestricted free agent and heading towards retirement.

I also have Taylor Heinicke making the roster as the third-string QB. Heinicke has been on the roster the last two seasons, as the developmental quarterback. Having three quarterbacks on the roster gives the Vikings insurance, considering Bradford’s injury history.

By no means is Heinicke’s spot safe on the roster, as the Vikings could stick with two unless Bridgewater miraculously isn’t on the PUP (physically unable to perform list) at the beginning of the season.

The Vikings also signed undrafted free agent Wes Lunt, who went to school at Illinois, as another quarterback option.
