If Miguel Sano and the Twins keep it up, he could be an American League MVP candidate, but for right now he leads the American League third basemen in the All-Star Game vote.

A lot of things are going well for the Minnesota Twins this season. The evidence of that is the fact that the Twins are in first place in the American League Central division. There’s a multitude of reasons why this is the case and one of the main reasons is the big bat of Miguel Sano.

In his first year with the third base job fully and solely his, Miguel Sano is on pace to start in the All-Star Game. In the latest All-Star balloting update released on MLB.com on Tuesday, Sano has pulled into first in the third base race almost 100,000 votes ahead of second place. Sano currently has 638,952 votes.

Here’s is the top five in the third base race via MLB.com:

  1. Miguel Sano, Twins: 638,952
  2. Jose Ramirez, Indians: 541,040
  3. Manny Machado, Orioles: 520,116
  4. Josh Donaldson, Blue Jays: 332,287
  5. Alex Bregman, Astros: 305,348

In last week’s update, Sano was in second place. Both Sano and Cleveland Indians third baseman Jose Ramirez passed up the Baltimore Orioles’ Manny Machado in the voting.

More from Sporting Sota

Sano is currently the only Twins player on the All-Star Game voting leaderboard. Entering the week, Sano has 14 home runs, 43 RBIs and a 1.016 OPS in a very MVP like first couple of months of the season.

If the All-Star Game was today Kansas City Royals catcher Salvador Perez, Detroit Tigers first baseman Miguel Cabrera, Houston Astros second baseman Jose Altuve, Indians shortstop Francisco Lindor, Seattle Mariners designated hitter Nelson Cruz, New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge, Los Angeles Angels outfielder Mike Trout and Indians outfielder Michael Brantley would get the American League starting nods.

Judge and Trout are the only American League players to surpass the million votes mark so far this season.

You can vote for the MLB All-Star Game online through June 29. The 88th All-Star Game is set for Tuesday, July 11 from Marlins Park in Miami, Florida.
