Ex-Twin Trevor Plouffe looks to be on his way out in Oakland.

All good things must come to an end. It’s a common saying and what some Minnesota Twins fans were saying when the team did not re-up with the third baseman and fan favorite Trevor Plouffe this past offseason. It looks like Plouffe might yet again be looking for another job.

After the Twins cut Plouffe, he was on the look for a new team. Plouffe landed with the Oakland A’s, but now it appears that Plouffe is the odd man out once again. The San Francisco Chronicle is reporting that Oakland will be designating Plouffe for assignment to make room for third base prospect Matt Chapman.

Plouffe signed a one-year deal worth $5.25 million with Oakland, but the Oakland Chronicle reports that the ex-Twin has seen his playing time diminish over the course of the season. Plouffe has appeared in 57 games and is only hitting .214 with 14 RBIs and seven home runs this season.

Chapman is 24 years old and was the Athletics first round pick in the 2014 season with the 25th overall pick. The Oakland Chronicle believes his call-up will result in a full-time gig at third for Chapman.

When the Twins released Plouffe this offseason, it was the first major move from the new front office of Derek Falvey and Thad Levine. It was a surprising move, but it also made plenty of sense after the Miguel Sano experience in right field went down in flames last season and Sano needed to be moved back to third base in a full time capacity.

This has been Plouffe’s first season outside of the Twins organization. Plouffe appeared in seven seasons at the major league level for Minnesota. Over those seven seasons, Plouffe made starts at every spot on the diamond other than pitcher, catcher and center field. In total, Plouffe appeared in 723 games as a Twin with a .247 average with 96 home runs and 357 RBI.

To make matters worse, the news of the potential release of Plouffe comes on his 31st birthday.

Happy birthday, Trevor!
