The Minnesota Lynx lost their first game of the season on Saturday.

All good things must come to an end and a great run for the Minnesota Lynx ended on Saturday evening. The Lynx dropped their first home game ever in St. Paul at the Xcel Energy Center in a surprising 98-93 loss to the Connecticut Sun.

The Lynx have been fairly dominant all WNBA season long, but didn’t have a single team member notch a double-double in the team’s first loss. The early WNBA-MVP favorite Sylvia Fowles did not have her usual MVP-like stuff in the game. Fowles still did finish with 12 points and seven rebounds.

Maya Moore led the game scoring-wise with a 22 point game. All five Minnesota starters did hit double-digits in the scoring column. Lindsay Whalen had 15, Seimone Augustus had 13 and Rebekkah Brunson had 11 points.

Renee Montgomery contributed 17 points off of the bench, but the only other scoring off the bench for the Lynx came from Natasha Howard with three points total.

The Connecticut Sun also had all five starters reach double-digits point wise and were led by a pair of 20 point scorers in the game. Alyssa Thomas and Jasmine Thomas both contributed exactly 20 points in the Sun win.

The win brings the Connecticut Sun record to an even .500 at 5-5 overall with a 3-3 record on the road. The loss was the first loss of the season for the Lynx who now stand at 9-1 overall with a 3-1 home record. Despite the loss, the Lynx are still two games better than any team in the league. Minnesota holds a two game lead in the Western Conference over the second place Los Angeles Sparks who have a 7-3 record. The Washington Mystics in the Eastern Conference also have a 7-3 record.

Minnesota’s next game is against those tough Washington Mystics on Friday at 7:00 at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul. The game against Washington is the second straight home game for the Lynx in a four game home stand.
