Fitbit to be the jersey patch sponsor of the Minnesota Timberwolves.

The Minnesota Timberwolves have been marketing to the fan base that we are now in a ‘new era’ of Timberwolves basketball. That ‘new era’ kicked off with the unveiling of a brand new logo for the team at the last home game of the 2016-2017 season. More refreshed looks will be added to the team with a freshly renovated Target Center, the court itself and the team’s jerseys. The jerseys will look different in more ways than one.

The Timberwolves announced on Tuesday that Fitbit will be the jersey patch sponsor in a three-year deal with the team. According to the team’s press release, Fitbit is now also the Timberwolves “official wearable” and “official sleep tracker”.

The wearable and sleep tracker titles will go throughout the Minnesota basketball behemoth that Glen Taylor owns. Fitbit is now the official sponsor of the Timberwolves, the Minnesota Lynx and of the G League’s Iowa Wolves. The Fitbit logo will be featured on the jerseys of both the NBA and G League Wolves teams.

It looks like Timberwolves employees and players will be given Fitbit’s to wear and use, if they wish. The players information is a little tricky due to the collective bargaining agreement. According to Yahoo Sports, there’s only six approved wearables and the Fitbit is not one of them at the NBA level.

That doesn’t mean that Fitbit can’t do some cool things with the Iowa Wolves. Via the Wolves press release:

"“Fitbit and the Timberwolves organization are exploring opportunities for the Iowa Wolves to serve as a testbed for using Fitbit technology in new ways to enhance basketball performance. The Timberwolves will encourage all employees to adopt Fitbit devices to further establish the organization as a leader of corporate health and wellness.”"

No word yet on when we will see the new jersey patch sponsor or the new jerseys for that matter. All that Wolves fans know is that we will see the new jerseys sometime this summer.

It also appears that fans will be getting in on the Fitbit action at Target Center. The Wolves and Fitbit are working to add the concession menus to the food logging portion of the Fitbit app. Fitbit will also have some in-arena signage.
