Gerald Green could potentially land back in Minnesota
Gerald Green is of potential interest to the Minnesota Timberwolves!
I haven’t taken a gander recently at the NBA guidelines, but there might be a line in there about a Slam Dunk Contest champion needing to be on the Minnesota Timberwolves’ roster. The Wolves traded Zach LaVine to the Chicago Bulls in the Jimmy Butler trade, so the Wolves are currently without a dunk champion. That could all change though because the Wolves reportedly have interest in Gerald Green, according to Darren Wolfson of KSTP.
Of course, Green is familiar with Minnesota and the Timberwolves. Green along with Al Jefferson, Sebastian Telfair, Ryan Gomes and Theo Ratliff were sent to the Wolves in exchange for some fella named Kevin Garnett back almost 10 years ago now.
What ever happened to that Garnett guy? Anything is possible, I suppose.
Anyway, Green only lasted with the Wolves for a whopping 29 games before Minnesota dealt him to the Houston Rockets for Kirk Snyder and a second round pick. Green played one game with the Rockets. Since then Green has been a world traveler.
From Houston, Green stayed in Texas and played for the Dallas Mavericks for a season. Green then hopped a flight and went to play professional basketball in Russia for two seasons, before returning to United States for stints with the New Jersey Nets, Indiana Pacers, Phoenix Suns, Miami Heat and full circle back to the Boston Celtics.

This past season, Green played in 47 games for the Celtics and averaged 5.6 points and 1.8 rebounds per game. Green shot .409 from the field overall and .351 from three point land in the 2016-17 season. For his career, Green is averaging 9.6 points, 2.4 rebounds and 1.0 assists per game in 544 NBA games played.
Green is still probably best known for his dunking which was referenced earlier in this piece. Green won the contest in 2007 when he was with the Celtics and finished as runner up in 2008 as a member of the Minnesota Timberwolves.
There is no question that Green is not a high priority for the Wolves or probably any NBA team. That being said, Green could still be a nice deep bench member and help supply some much needed depth.
