Reports state that the Minnesota Timberwolves are looking to bring back Shabazz Muhammad on a veteran’s minimum contract.

The Minnesota Timberwolves are currently trying to fill out their roster and, to be totally frank, there are not a whole lot of great options out there. That is why it appears that the Timberwolves are looking at bringing back Shabazz Muhammad.

Muhammad has not lived up to expectations, but still has some potential. That fact alone will make it tough for the Wolves to sign Muhammad simply to the minimum contract. The minimum is all Minnesota has left to offer though.

Muhammad has spent his whole NBA career with the Timberwolves after being drafted 14th overall in the 2013 Draft. Muhammad was technically drafted by the Utah Jazz, but his rights and Gorgui Dieng’s rights were sent to Minnesota on draft night in exchange for the rights of Trey Burke.

Over his four NBA season, Muhammad is averaging 9.2 points, 3.0 rebounds and 0.6 assists per game. This last season, the first season under Tom Thibodeau, saw Muhammad’s points, rebound and assists per game numbers go down compared to the season before. Muhammad’s best point per game season was in his second season with a 13.5 point per game mark while last season saw him only average 9.9 points per game.

Muhammad was not exactly a popular pick throughout the Timberwolves fandom coming out of UCLA. While Muhammad has shown some flashes of potential greatness, it has not sustained for a long period of time. This allowed Thibodeau and the Wolves a fairly easy decision on renouncing Muhammad’s rights earlier this offseason in order to free cap space to bring in the services of Taj Gibson.

Minnesota isn’t the only team that has shown interest in Muhammad. Reports also have the Orlando Magic showing interest. If Muhammad does settle for the minimum deal, he’ll probably even have more teams to choose from once we get closer to training camp.
