Video: Miguel Sano makes sparkling play behind third
Miguel Sano looked like an absolute Gold Glover for the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday night.
Not a whole lot right went right for the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday night in their matchup against the Cleveland Indians. The Twins desperately need some wins in the series against division-leading Cleveland, but that didn’t happen in the first game of the series with an 8-1 loss. Miguel Sano looking like a Gold Glove third baseman did happen though.
Many were skeptical about Sano’s abilities at third base going into the season. Throughout the season, Sano has shown that he can be, at a minimum, serviceable at the hot corner. He made a remarkable play on Tuesday night which required Sano virtually throw a batter out from the tarp. Watch the play in the tweet below:

The throw was absolutely incredible from Sano. The underrated part of the play was the beautiful scoop by Joe Mauer on the receiving end at first base. Mauer has been playing beautifully at first this season and truly should be in the discussion for the American League Gold Glove at first base. This play will hopefully help fuel the fire of a Mauer Gold Glove campaign.

Sano made his first All-Star Game this season and has helped keep the Twins in playoff contention. Through the middle of August, the Twins have already won as many games as they did all of 2016. Sano is a major reason for this success.
The Twins will need to be leaning on Sano to try and get to the playoffs while fighting through the tough American League. It might be tough to catch the Indians in the Central, but the Twins still have a chance to capture a Wild Card berth while fighting the likes of the New York Yankees, Kansas City Royals and Los Angeles Angels.
A solid defensive effort from Sano will go a far way. Awesome plays like this will help remind us just how awesome of an athlete he truly is.
