Minnesota Vikings: Updated roster prediction after third preseason game
Special Teams
K: Kai Forbath
P: Ryan Quigley
LS: Kevin McDermott
Special Teams Notes
The kicker position is arguably the toughest one to judge at this point. Kai Forbath hasn’t done anything to lose the job, but Marshall Koehn’s leg strength is intriguing. Koehn was given kicking duties against the 49ers, makings four of five field goals including a long bomb from 58 yards out. But, moments later, he missed one from 47. Vikings fans know firsthand that leg strength isn’t everything, so it really comes down to how much Zimmer trusts the young kicker. The advantage on kickoffs clearly goes to Koehn though.

For now, I am sticking with Forbath based on a proven track record of success. He’s the safer bet here.
This battle is close though and every part of me wants to give the job to Koehn based on potential alone. If he converts a couple field goals on Thursday, I’ll be more optimistic about his chances.
Ryan Quigley seems to have the advantage at punter over Taylor Symmank. He’s a better directional punter and is a trusted holder on field goal opportunities.
Jerick McKinnon’s 108-yard kick return touchdown should secure his status as kick returner.
