Timberwolves fans didn’t know if the team could acquire Jimmy Butler without giving up Andrew Wiggins. As we know, it turns out that it was a possibility. RIP Zach LaVine era of Timberwolves basketball.

Now Wiggins needs to show that the Timberwolves made the right choice in keeping him. On the Jimmy Butler trade, some Wolves fans questioned if they didn’t trade the better player away by trading away LaVine over Wiggins. Time will for sure tell us the answer, but I think there is a decent argument to be had about how LaVine, at the moment, is a better player.

Wiggins was also linked into a trade to the Cleveland Cavaliers for Kyrie Irving. The Wolves apparently never offered Wiggins in a trade to the Cavs, because they wanted to keep the former Kansas Jayhawks standout. There is no doubt that at this moment, Irving is a better player than Wiggins.

Wiggins is a frustrating player. He has all the parts to be a really great NBA player, but some assembly seems to still be required. Wiggins is still young, but it’s still frustrating to see Wiggins stay still while Towns keeps upping his game tenfold.

Frankly, Wiggins needs to step it up and quick. The Wolves need to know if they are going to be title contenders with Wiggins or not. They can do it either way and it’s Wiggins’ choice.
