The Minnesota Twins have to win in New York eventually, so why not do it in the American League Wild Card Game?

Simply, it is a miracle that the Minnesota Twins are a playoff team. As I’m sure you are aware of by now, but the amazingness of the stat bears repeating: the Twins are the first team to lose 100 games and then the next season make the playoffs. Simply making it to the American League Wild Card Game is nice, but wouldn’t it be nicer to win the game?

Obviously, literally either team can win the game. If everything goes the way we think it will, it looks like it will be the Twins and Yankees facing off in the one-game playoff. The Yankees will have an advantage with being the home team, but, really, that’s the only advantage in the game.

The Yankees have years of beating the Twins on their side, too, but that means another thing: the Twins are due.

What is stopping the Twins from winning? Nothing, right? Heck, the Yankees might have years and years of playoff dominance over the Twins, but only Joe Mauer experience those beat downs from the Bronx Bombers. Every other Twins player has never been exposed to that in the postseason.

The Yankees are nothing to sneeze at, but neither are the Twins. It looks like the Twins will have their best pitcher in Ervin Santana on the mound to start which is huge for Minnesota. Plus, Minnesota will, of course, have their offense and it is an offense that is super deadly to the point that no one should want to face it, especially in a one-game playoff.

Would it be shocking if the Twins lose? No. But don’t write the team off before the plane lands on the East Coast. Records were meant to be broken and a team can only own another team for so long.

There’s a lot of numbers that baseball nerds will tell you and they are all good numbers. Sometimes you don’t need numbers, though. The Twins are due.
