The Minnesota Timberwolves trip to China is the best kind of business trip.

The NBA is trying to grow the league’s presence internationally which makes sense. The NFL is trying to that with having, seemingly, a game every week in London, England. This preseason the NBA has sent the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Golden State Warriors over to China and that’s a good thing for the Wolves.

First, there are a nice amount of new players on the Timberwolves squad. Building chemistry by traveling together and especially traveling internationally will only result in a close team. Basketball is truly a sport that does benefit when a team has good chemistry between the players. With only five players on the court at the same time, if they can read their teammates’ minds, well, that will only result in success a team.

Second, it’s good for the Timberwolves to be facing off against the Golden State Warriors. Sure, it’s the preseason, but it never hurts to go up against the best teams in basketball and Golden State is obviously in that category. The Timberwolves can learn some things from being in close quarters multiple times with the world champions.

Also, it’s nice to get familiar with the Warriors. I don’t expect the Timberwolves to beat the Warriors in the postseason this upcoming season, but eventually the team will have to beat Golden State to get to their ultimate goal. Might as well get familiar now. It won’t hurt anything going forward.

Would it be nice to see the new look Wolves with Jimmy Butler, Jeff Teague and Taj Gibson? Of course it would, but Target Center isn’t quite ready to go and the Timberwolves never play too many true home preseason games the way it is.

It may stink for the diehards who want to watch the preseason games due to the fact that they’ll be tipping off in the wee hours of the night in Minnesota, but I truly think the trip is in the best interest of the Timberwolves.

The Timberwolves might not be playing any home preseason games, but doesn’t the waiting make it sweeter? I sure think it does.
