Minnesota Twins should bring back Bartolo Colon

Bartolo Colon wants to pitch again and the Minnesota Twins should be in on him.

The 2017 season was an odd one for the Minnesota Twins. From being sellers at the deadline to making the playoffs, it was a wild ride for the boys of summer in the Land of 10,000 Lakes. While there was a lot of things that happened that Twins fans didn’t see coming, the addition of Bartolo Colon was at the top of the list. Colon pitching rather well after struggling mightily with the Atlanta Braves earlier in the season was even more of a surprise.

This all comes up because Colon wants to pitch again. He is 44-years-old. Excuse me, Big Sexy is 44-years-young.

The Twins need to be in on Colon and they need to bring him back into the fold.

Let’s face it, the Twins pitching was close to horrible in 2017 and they won despite of it. In the starting rotation nobody beyond Ervin Santana and Jose Berrios were worth writing home about. That leaves three spots in the rotation that will be open for Minnesota and even if the team wants to go all in and spend, they aren’t going to give out three huge contracts to starting pitchers (please prove me wrong, Twins).

Colon pitched well enough for the Twins last season to be the fifth man in the rotation. Colon had a 5.18 ERA but a nice WHIP of 1.438 in 80 innings over 15 starts. Those aren’t great stats, but it’s worth another look.

The 20 year veteran is not going to demand much of a contract so it’s not much of a gamble. It is barely a gamble for a professional team. Give him a small deal and if he crashes and burns, well, then you cut him.

It is fun to have Big Sexy on the team and he can teach the young players on the club a thing or two. The Twins have made a lot of bad signings throughout their history, so it’s worth a shot.
