Tom Thibodeau

The Timberwolves haven’t made the playoffs for 13 years which says right on the surface that the team has not been good. What didn’t help the playoff drought was the constant coaching carousel that the team has been on. According to my count, the Timberwolves have had nine coaching changes since they last made the playoffs.

Let’s take a little trip down the coaching timeline memory lane: Flip Saunders into interim Kevin McHale into Dwane Casey into Randy Wittman back into interim McHale into Kurt Rambis into Rick Adelman into the return of Saunders into full-season interim Sam Mitchell into Tom Thibodeau. That is a lot of coaches.

Only Adelman made it more than two seasons in his tenure during that time. Thibodeau is going to stop that trend and he will be at the head of the bench for a long time. He might never sit on that bench with his constant barking, but he’ll be pacing by for years to come.

There are some issues to Thibodeau’s coaching but he is still one of the best coaches in the NBA. As long as Thibodeau is a member of the Timberwolves organization, it will be run as a professional organization. That alone is something to be thankful for.
