The Minnesota Timberwolves are on the verge of unveiling a Prince-themed jersey, unfortunately, they were not the first to showcase them.

Alternate NBA jerseys can offer a little bit of everything — class, style, fun, and great color coordination. It appears that the Minnesota Timberwolves are looking to capitalize in a major way. News of the Timberwolves designing one of their alternate jerseys to pay homage to late entertainer Prince hit the blogosphere recently and the buzz was well-received.

Prince, who grew up in Minnesota, had several ties to the Timberwolves’ organization. The Timberwolves designed the alternate jerseys, which can be viewed here, with various subtle details inspired by Prince.

One of the primary colors the Timberwolves employed in the lettering and logo was purple. Going back into time, it is a hue that became synonymous to the musical icon when his album and film “Purple Rain” was released. By adorning different layers of purple in their alternate jersey, the Timberwolves are looking to honor Prince in grand fashion.

It is uncertain how many games the Timberwolves plan to wear the Prince-inspired jerseys, however, the new uni’s are part of the NBA’s City Edition. Since Timberwolves’ players are sure to dress in the jerseys a few times, the question becomes whether or not it is a jersey worth purchasing.

The jersey will be black and purple, with white serving as the highlight for the lettering. It has a certain feel of cool while being bold. The color scheme is shockingly versatile and can be worn on most casual occasions, just not all of the time.

Because it will be known as the Timberwolves’ City Edition jersey, it is all but guaranteed to be a limited edition. Barring a demand that is greater than expected, the Timberwolves will produce only so many.

Pricing for the Timberwolves’ Prince-inspired jersey will be in concert with the price tags for most NBA jerseys. Secondary markets, on the other hand, will sell the jerseys at staggering costs.
