Adam Thielen is Wasting No Time Helping the Vikings Compete in the NFC North

The Minnesota Vikings were able to bring back fan-favorite wideout Adam Thielen to the team for the 2025 season. The Vikings sent a 2026 fifth-round pick and a 2027 fourth-round pick to the Carolina Panthers in exchange for Thielen, a 2026 seventh-round pick, and a 2027 fifth-round pick.
Minnesota has Jordan Jefferson as its true No. 1 target, but the addition of Thielen was needed. Jordan Addison is slated to miss the first three games of the season due to a suspension, so getting the vet in the fold is huge.
And the newest (and returning) Viking is wasting no time helping his team. NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported on Saturday morning that Thielen agreed to a revised deal with Minnesota, cutting his salary down by $2 million and removing $4 million in incentives.

WR Adam Thielen Revised Contract with Vikings
Thielen made it clear he wanted to return to Minnesota, and taking less money to suit up there proves he wasn't lying. The Land of 10,000 Lakes is where he played his college ball at Minnesota State, as well as the first nine years of his NFL career.
According to OverTheCap, the Vikings are sitting on about $16 million in available cap space, and this extra money gives them some wiggle room. Whether they use that ahead of the regular season or at the trade deadline remains to be seen. Nonetheless, any extra money that's made available will help general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah build the best team possible.
The NFC North is tough, with the Detroit Lions, Chicago Bears, and Green Bay Packers all expected to be good teams. Green Bay just made a splashy trade to acquire Micah Parsons, the Bears hired offensive guru Ben Johnson as their head coach, and the Lions just won the division last year with a 15-2 record.
There are no slouches in this division, so Thielen helping create any extra spending money shows the kind of person he is. And he's thrilled to be back.
In 135 games with the Vikings, Thielen has recorded 534 receptions for 6,682 receiving yards and 55 touchdowns. In his lone season under HC Kevin O'Connell, he secured 70 catches with 716 receiving yards and six TDs. This offensive scheme is very friendly to its playmaker, so Thielen is expected to lead by example.
Despite being 35 years old, Thielen can still be a factor. Last season with the Carolina Panthers, he had 48 catches for 615 yards and five touchdowns in 10 games. He was on pace for an 82-1,046-9 stat line had he been healthy enough to play all 17 contests.
The Vikings will lean on Thielen through the first three weeks, but the load will lighten up when Addison returns. Regardless, he'll be given opportunities to make plays for this offense as they seek to capture an NFC North title, and his contract news was just the start of that journey.
