Everyone that covers Minnesota sports has used this already today, but I’m going to do it anyway: Prince is coming to Target Center. Tayshaun Prince has signed with the Minnesota Timberwolves according to Yahoo! Sports. Sorry for all you fans of the Purple One.

The deal with Prince is for one year at the veteran’s minimum. The same deal that the Wolves signed point guard Andre Miller to a week ago.

Prince and Timberwolves Part-owner/President/Head Coach Flip Saunders have a history together. Prince played for Saunders after Saunders was hired on as head coach with the Detroit Pistons back in the day, following his unnecessary firing as the Timberwovles head coach the first time around.

The first round pick in 2002 is 35-years-old and will turn 36 just after the All-Star break this upcoming season for the Wolves. Prince has played in 12 NBA seasons and has appeared in 82 games in seven of those campaigns. Last season, Prince appeared in 58 game with 16 starts for three teams: Memphis Grizzlies, Boston Celtics and the Pistons.

Last season, Prince averaged 7.5 points a game with 3.6 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game as well. For his career, he averages 11.8 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game. Prince was a great defender in his prime as he was named to four straight All-Defensive second teams starting with the 2004-05 season.

Prince is coming to Minnesota mainly to hold the same role that Miller and Kevin Garnett are already here to do: mentor. The best thing for the Wolves is to have these three guys in uniform, but never having to get off the bench. That means the young guys are doing what they should.
