Minnesota Timberwolves: Young guns lead Wolves to victory over Miami

It’s become a pretty straight forward formula for the Minnesota Timberwolves: when Ricky Rubio plays, the Timberwolves win. That again was the case on Tuesday night in a 103-91 victory over the Miami Heat in Florida.

Rubio had missed the last four games, all of which the Wolves lost, and he still didn’t look quite 100 percent against Miami, but his presence again was enough to sustain the Wolves victory. Rubio had seven points, three assists and four rebounds in 27 minutes of action.

Hassan Whiteside made his presence known for Miami. The big man put up a triple-double with 22 points, 14 boards and ten blocks. Granted, a nice chuck of Whiteside’s effectiveness throughout the night came on plays where he should have been whistled for a foul, but that’s beside the point.

Miami’s bench did nothing for the Heat on Tuesday. The bench, usually a strong suit, only had 13 points in the game. Add on top of that, the two big stars of Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade both only scored 10. Bosh was a game worst -36 in the plus/minus.

Tuesday was a great showing for the young guns of the Timberwolves. Andrew Wiggins led the way with 24 points while Karl-Anthony Towns record yet another double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds. Shabazz Muhammad and Zach LaVine both had great nights of the bench for the Wolves. Muhammad had 16 points and LaVine had 17 points while being a game best +23.

The Wolves also held onto the ball and forced Miami to cough it up. Minnesota only turned the ball over a total of eight times the whole ballgame while Miami committed 22 turnovers.

Minnesota goes for the Florida sweep on Wednesday when they face the Orlando Magic. The Wolves look to complete the Florida sweep for the first time since 2003.
